About Birgir Andrésson
Born 1955 in the Westman Islands, Iceland and later lived and worked in Reykjavik. Andresson studied at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts from 1973-77, and then later at Jan van Eyck in Holland. Upon completion of his studies Birgir returned to Iceland where he worked as an artist and designer. Birgir became one of the most important artists of his generation. Using a conceptual approach to explore Icelandic culture and national identity. In 1995 Birgir represented Iceland in the Venice Biennale.
Birger passed away in 2007 in Reykjavik, Iceland.
